GLOBE AMBASSADORS
The GLOBE Ambassador program (GLAP) is an opt-in, non-credit bearing educational travel initiative designed to broaden students’ understanding of international challenges, innovative ecosystems, and industrial advancements. The program is fully sponsored by the College of Engineering, offering students with limited to no travel experience the opportunity to see beyond Berkeley.
The program consists of two parts: preparatory academic sessions and an international study trip.
Prep Sessions:
Throughout the semester, GLOBE hosts numerous preparatory sessions that deepen student awareness of the host country’s culture, customs, challenges, and innovations. The prep sessions include:
- Guest speakers: professional and industry experts from the target country are invited to provide local insights and perspectives
- Case studies and discussions: students are assigned case study readings to discuss during class, helping students reflect on real-world issues
- Group projects: collaborative learning is encouraged through group assignments focused on the host country
Students must attend and participate in ALL prep sessions in order to be eligible for the study trip.
Study Trip:
The program culminates in the study trip at the end of the semester. Students attend a one-week, fully sponsored trip to the target country and engage with international start-ups, corporations, Cal alumni, government agencies, and academic institutions. Students develop the language, skills, and knowledge needed to navigate engineering developments across various fields and explore a range of career opportunities not previously considered/encountered.
